UMGUNGUNDLOVU FILM FESTIVAL FESTIVAL (UFF) uMgungundlovu Film Festival is a multi-genre film festival that is created to provide a platform for young black local filmmakers, to reach black audiences under-serviced by traditional cinemas, to address the current challenge of bringing women into the film industry and to give filmmakers access to film industry information and career opportunities that are available in the film industry.
VISION The aim of uMgungundlovu Film Festival is to present quality multi-genre films to visiting
professionals, amateurs and local, national and international film enthusiasts in Pietermaritzburg and help lay a foundation for new and upcoming filmmakers, further the tcareers of more established professionals, inspire its financiers, and make Pietermaritzburg a film epicenter for years to come. MISSION STATEMENT It is to attract audience from Kwazulu- Natal from the rest of South Africa and from around the world to come to Pietermaritzburg to watch quality films that emphasize our history, social issues and to bring filmmakers and audiences an experience unlike any other; one that not only rewards but advances careers for filmmakers. STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES • To ensure that national and international film directors attend the festival and participate in discussions about their work and about the art of filmmaking, and that they are given the opportunity to see what the District has to offer, in the hope that they will return to make films here. • To generate interest in participation in films and festivals in the local uMgungundlovu community, including, but not limited to an extensive schools outreach program across uMgungundlovu region. • To encourage local people and international visitors who attend the festival to engage in the creative process by participating in seminars, events, and workshops running in parallel to festival screenings. • To provide a sustainable long-term tourism event in our town that enjoys significant local community involvement. • To create an environment and atmosphere that facilitates in-depth discussion about the films and the social impact issues they raise.
