UMGUNGUNDLOVU FILM FESTIVAL SUBMISSION TERMS AND CONDITIONS 1. Introduction The uMgungundlovu Film Festival is created to provide a platform for local filmmakers to exhibit their films. This is Pietermaritzburg - based festival in Pietermaritzburg in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. The uMgungundlovu Film Festival invites filmmakers to submit their Short, Documentary or Feature Fiction films to screen in the festival from 28 Nov - 01 Dec 2019 under the theme My roots. My heritage. As we discover, tell and hear our legacy. The festival will be over a 4-day period at various locations in Pietermaritzburg.
Only films completed as from January 2017 will be accepted entry. Submissions open 12 August 2019.
2. Submission Deadline
Deadline for all entries is 30 September 2019 3. Categories of the Festival and Terms
Documentaries: Non-fictional films which are based on reality, innovative, film that will make an impact.
Feature Length Film: a narrative, animated or experimental film with a running time of 60 minutes and above.
Short Film: A fiction or documentary film with a running time of under 60 minutes.
All submissions should be made by the official representative who will serve as the mediator for screening fees as well as the transportation of the materials.
4. Film Entry Rules The festival allows submission of feature films, documentaries, short films that have been completed since January 2017, accepted exhibition formats for our festival are: PAL and NTSC BLU RAY, and MPEG 2, MPEG 4, and AVI digital files. The filmmaker will assume material and shipping costs of materials to UFF although a download link is preferred. Entrants must assume all responsibility for clearing materials through customs. Audio is STEREO only.
Feature length productions (fiction or non-fiction) over 60 minutes must not have been shown on South African television, internet streaming services prior UFF presentation . Films written in other foreign languages other than English must be subtitled in English in order to be considered for selection.
Works that are solely promotional, educational or scientific in nature are not eligible for selection for the UFF.
A Film that is selected to participate in the festival cannot be withdrawn from the festival during the event.
5. Entry FormForm can be found or the website or via email. 6. Selection and Notification Films presented at the festival are selected by the Selection Committee.
The application will not be considered complete until all entry requirements are met. All selected films will be notified by the Festival Director no later than 10 October 2019.
6. Selected Films Required Materials Successful entrants will be asked to send us an online link to download the film in high resolution for screening purposes or to courier us a DVD, Bluray for projection. Each DVD/Bluray must be labeled with name, filmmaker, contact info, running time and aspect ratio (4*3 or 16*9). More than one entry may be submitted.
A Director of the selected film must complete an official UFF Participation Confirmation Form available on selection no later than 15 October 2019.

By submitting the UFF participation confirmation form and the above materials, the entrant(s) grant to UFF a non-exclusive license to publicly screen the selected film in the 2019 uMgungundlovu Film Festival in theaters used by the festival.
7. Shipping and Customs All films that are selected for participation in the event must be clearly labelled with a courier tracking number.
The participating film will pay the shipping cost to Pietermaritzburg.
All prints for screening must arrive at the Pietermaritzburg by no later 30 September 2019.
The uMgungundlovu Film Festival is not responsible for any damage incurred during submission of the film materials by the participant to Pietermaritzburg.
8. Awards & Prizes This is the competition section of the festival, which covers a selection for Feature Fiction, Feature Documentaries, Shorts that tell our roots and legacy to be judged by a jury.
Trophies are awarded to winning films in each of UFF's categories. Prize money will be determined by the jury.
Not all invited films officially selected will be eligible for competition. The selection committees' and juries' decisions are final. UFF reserves the right to make any necessary changes in rules or festival scheduling.
